Hello, my name is Don Gerber. For most of the 30+ years as a software engineer, I’ve spent spare time building custom furniture and various wood pieces for family and friends. With my software career changing to part-time, I get to take my love for woodworking to the next level, building more pieces and for more people. Making new friends in the process.

My favorite building material is Red Oak with its unique grain and color that really pops with a nice stain finish. Oak keeps the price of fine wood furniture at an affordable level due to its abundance and sustainability.

I’ve built many different types of pieces over the years using a range of materials. These include solid wood pieces such as various types of tables, bookcases and built-in cabinets. And combination plywood and solid wood pieces such as kitchen cabinets and office desks.

With a fixation on details, I’ve been doing 3D computer modeling of my wood projects for many years. Not only does this help me get the details right, but it allows me to view the project from all angles, getting the visual appearance correct before I cut a single piece of wood. And it’s fun.
